*Please note that due to the nature of repetitive text in the beginning levels, certain story elements may not exist.  Ask the questions that are appropriate to the text.

Tell what this story was about in a few sentences. (Using specific names and actions.)

Setting, Location and/or Time:

        Where did this story happen?  When did this story happen?

Major Events and Event Sequence:

        What happened in this story?  What else happened in this story?

What happened after or before event mentioned by child?

Character or Object Development:

Who was this story about?  Tell me more about the character or object?

Why do you think the character/object did …..?

Author’s Message:

        What do you think character/s learned in this story?

What do you think the author was trying to tell/teach us?

Connections to Personal Experience or Prior Knowledge:
